Common questions

What It Costs to Get It Sorted

How do I pay?

Whatever suits you once the job wraps up and you've had a proper look at the work: card, transfer, the usual options. Bigger jobs like a switchboard rebuild might carry a deposit, agreed with you upfront, but the final number always matches what was on paper.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

Never. Coming out to look at a tripping circuit or price a full rewire costs you nothing. Nothing gets charged until you've accepted the quote and a booking's confirmed.

Do prices change once you start?

Only if we uncover something the quote genuinely couldn't have accounted for, which happens more often once we're behind the walls of one of Gordon's older Federation places. Even then, we down tools and talk you through the updated number before going any further.

How do quotes work?

One of our electricians looks the job over, talks through what needs doing, and writes the price down before anyone picks up a tool. Labour, parts, testing and the compliance certificate are all folded into that one figure.

Common questions

Licensed, Insured and Done Properly

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. NSW Electrical Contractor Licence #452529C, listed on the NSW Fair Trading register if you want to check it yourself, and we hold Master Electricians Australia membership on top. Cover extends to residential and strata jobs right across Gordon.

What is a Certificate of Compliance and do I get one?

It's the record NSW Fair Trading requires for notifiable electrical work, confirming it was done to standard. We lodge it and send you a copy without needing to be asked.

What is a safety switch (RCD) and do I need one?

Think of it as a circuit's own reflexes: the moment current starts leaking somewhere it shouldn't, power cuts before it can hurt anyone. Quite a few of Gordon's Federation and mid-century homes went up long before these were compulsory, and NSW now requires one on every circuit.

What brands do you install?

We fit Clipsal and Hager for switchgear, Beacon Lighting and SAL for fixtures, and steer well clear of the unbranded imports that fail within a year or two. Got a brand preference already? Mention it when we quote and we'll work with it.

Common questions

Response Times and Booking

Do you work weekends?

Weekday bookings are the default, though weekend slots can usually be arranged if you ask when you call. A genuine electrical emergency gets a response no matter what day it falls on.

What happens after I call?

One of our local team picks up, not a script at a call centre, and finds you a time that fits. We show up when we've said we will, talk through the job face to face, and give you the price in writing before starting anything.

How fast can you get here?

Often same or next day once a booking's confirmed, and quicker again for anything that counts as a genuine emergency, sparking or a dead switchboard included. What's already on the books that day affects it, but we'll tell you straight when you ring.

How do I book?

Ring (02) 9538 7356 or leave your details on the contact page and we'll get back to you. There's $50 off if it's your first job with us, and getting a quote never locks you into anything.

Common questions

The Gordon Questions

What suburbs do you service?

Gordon and the Ku-ring-gai suburbs around it: Killara, Pymble, St Ives, Roseville and Lindfield. Just outside that list? Ring us anyway and we'll let you know.

Can you handle new builds and renovations here?

Both come up constantly around here. Gordon's Federation-era stock keeps the renovation side busy, while the newer apartments nearer the station call for a completely different skill set. Switching between a century-old rewire and a modern fit-out is a normal week for us.

Why do Gordon's older homes need switchboard upgrades?

Plenty of the Queen Anne and bungalow homes built here between the 1890s and 1915 are still running the ceramic fuses they were built with, not a modern circuit breaker in sight. Modern households simply draw more than those boards were ever sized for, which is what forces the upgrade.

How local are you, really?

This whole pocket of Ku-ring-gai is our regular run, week in, week out, not a suburb we swing through occasionally. That's why getting to you doesn't mean a trek across Sydney first.
